"ONE would suspect it is uncomfortable being a Ganim in Bridgeport these days.

While Mayor Joseph P. Ganim is on trial facing federal corruption and racketeering charges, his brother, Judge Paul J. Ganim, the city's judge of probate, is being investigated for improperly using absentee ballots in the 2002 Democratic primary for probate judge.

Kevin F. Boyle, the Bridgeport lawyer who was Paul Ganim's opponent in the last two primaries, is accusing Judge Ganim's campaign of, among other things, forging applications for absentee ballots and filling out ballots for other people.

''I'm alleging that there was a widespread pattern of fraud in this primary election,'' said Mr. Boyle. ''I believe the ballots were stolen by the Democratic Town Committee.''
